Philharmonia’s Fury – Drama. Passion. Baroque.

Thursday, October 16

Step into the sound world of the 18th century with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra’s season opener, Fury and Heartbreak. Performed on period instruments, this is your chance to hear the music with the same vivid sound that first thrilled audiences more than 300 years ago.
They invite you to dive into the emotional extremes of Italian Baroque, with music by Handel and Vivaldi that brims with love turned to rage, devotion betrayed, strings racing furiously, and abandoned lovers demanding to be heard.

Concert Highlights

  • Escape to the sound world of the 1700s and hear the music as it was meant to be heard, on period instruments and in the style of the time.
  • Featuring Maya Kherani, praised for her “intelligence, vulnerability, and a rich, soaring soprano” (Opera News), who brings two heroines’ breakups to vivid life in music by Handel and Marcello.
  • A grand finale: Vivaldi’s In furore iustissimae irae (“In the Fury of Most Righteous Wrath”) is a blazing showpiece of furious strings and breathtaking vocal fireworks.
