Pride Month at the SF Public Library

June

Film screenings, art exhibits, workshops and more! Pride at the San Francisco Public Library includes a number of events across their branches. At the Main Branch don’t miss:

Opening reception of The Unbuilding Archive (on view through October 22), June 4, 6-7:30pm: “Commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Compton’s Cafeteria Riot with the opening of the exhibition The Unbuilding Archive: Liberated Futures for the Site of Compton’s Cafeteria Riot curated by co-curators Chandra Laborde and Ach Kab of the TurkxTaylor Initiative. Laborde and Kab will introduce the exhibit and talk about how they unbuild carceral power through the archive, starting with the building’s current carceral occupation, tracing its transformation back to its construction in 1908 and grounding the work in the land itself by honoring the Ramaytush Ohlone stewardship.”

National AIDS Memorial Quilt Repair & Panel Making Workshop, June 6, noon-4pm: “Help preserve a powerful piece of history and create new ways to honor loved ones at this hands-on workshop with the National AIDS Memorial. No sewing experience needed — all are welcome.”

SFPL Pride Film Screening of WE WERE HERE, June 10, 5-7:30: “Screening followed by a conversation with director David Weissman and special guests.” RSVP required.

Queer Art Luminaries Show and Tell, June 20, 3pm: “First, watch a selection of video interviews with beloved visionary LGBTQIA+ artists drawn from the E.A.R.T.H. Lab SF’s living archive. Then gather inspiration for fully creative lives from five visionary artists who will be there in the flesh. We’ll discuss these interview archives, share reflections, and answer your questions.” RSVP here.
