Carlos Villa: Worlds in Collision & Carlos Villa: Roots and Reinvention

June - October

Spanning Civic Center, two major exhibits will feature the retrospective works of Carlos Villa (1936–2013). At the Asian Art Museum, Carlos Villa: Worlds in Collision highlights his works of creating a more inclusive and multicultural art world. The “first major museum retrospective dedicated to the work of a Filipino American artist,” his works feature “world-making, trans-cultural solidarity, critical pedagogy, and radical hope.”

Across Civic Center Plaza at the SFAC Galleries, Carlos Villa: Roots and Reinvention “curated by Mark Dean Johnson and Trisha Lagaso Goldberg, will highlight Villa’s art from the 1980s and 1990s, a period of reinvention for Villa.”

Carlos Villa: Worlds in Collision at the Asian Art Museum site through October 24.

Carlos Villa: Roots and Reinvention at SFAC through September 3, more information on the SFAC site.
