Civic Center Plaza Holiday Tree Lighting 2022

The annual Civic Center Plaza Tree Lighting event returns December 7, 4-7pm! Add this fun, free, family-friendly event to your holiday calendar! Featuring festive holiday performances, food, music, a toy giveaway for children, and Makers Village DIY activities for kids and adults, you won’t want to miss it!

The event takes place across from an illuminated City Hall in Civic Center Plaza, a wonderful backdrop for a photo; and the full night’s line up led by Boxcar Theatre’s Artistic Director Nick A. Olivero features performances by the Tap Dancing Christmas Trees and acapella group Business Casual, among others, with appearances by Christmas VIPs such the Grinch and the man-of-the-hour: Santa! Also expect “snow” flurries!

Another Planet Entertainment and the San Francisco Police Foundation, along with the Civic Center Community Benefit District, will lead a toy giveaway at the event for the first 400 children 12-and-under. There will also be holiday-themed arts-and-craft activities (Card and gift tag making! A playful snow station! Ornament crafting! DIY wrapping paper!) with SF Etsy in the Makers Village, along with a book giveaway from the San Francisco Public Library. Festive bites will be available for purchase from an Off the Grid Food truck and Annie’s Hot Dog Cart, along with hot cocoa and a bar featuring seasonal favorites from Assembly Cafe & Beer Garden!

The event will begin promptly at 4 p.m. The lighting of Civic Center Plaza’s 50-foot noble fir by Mayor London Breed will take place at 5:30 p.m. RSVP via Facebook or Eventbrite for an event day reminder.
