The Civic Center CBD programs includes outdoor musical performances, public art installations, the Civic Center Plaza Holiday Tree Lighting, Block Parties, and the Civic Center Plaza Cafe.
Assembly Cafe and Beer Garden
A Civic Center Plaza café kiosk opened in October 2018. A gift to CCCBD and the public from the Trust for Public Land, the café kiosk – Assembly Cafe and Beer Garden – sits adjacent to the new Helen Diller Family Foundation Playgrounds. Assembly offers sweet and savory food and beverages, and soft serve, for every price point. The site-responsive design, with gates that open to form a canopy, was led by architecture firm WRNS Studio and creates a welcoming sense of place that complements both the new playgrounds and the historic architecture of Civic Center.

Dog Run
The UN Plaza Dog Run, adjacent to famed Arsicault Bakery, offers much needed space for dogs to stretch their legs and enjoy some time off-leash. The dog run area is managed and operated by the CBD, with personnel on site each day.
The Heart of the City Farmers’ Market
Since 1981, this independent, farmer-operated, non-profit market operates daily on Wednesdays and Sundays year round (rain or shine!) with a mission to bring high-quality and affordable produce from small local farms to the heart of San Francisco. This well-loved market, just steps from City Hall, offers a variety of lunch options and seating on Wednesdays.
Civic Center Soundtrack
The inspiration for Civic Center Soundtrack was born during the pandemic, as a way to bring positive activity to Civic Center while live performances and audiences were prohibited. The installation of quality sound equipment allows for music to be played throughout the day and into the evening, in any kind of weather. Live music, and recorded music from participating performing arts organizations, lifts the spirits of those passing through UN Plaza and Fulton Plaza; reminding all that they are in San Francisco’s premier arts and culture district. Civic Center Plaza Holiday Tree Lighting
The Civic Center Plaza Holiday Tree Lighting — a free, family-friendly event — happens every year in early December, lead by the Civic Center CBD since 2016. This festive event features holiday entertainment, musical guests, a toy giveaway for 400+ children, festive bites, free craft making, “snow” flurries, and more!
Holiday Fanfare
These festive holiday pop up concerts by musicians from District arts and cultural organizations happen throughout the month of December on Civic Center sidewalks; an annual tradition since 2013.
Oktoberfest, Block Parties & More
From summer block parties to fall mini-golf and Oktoberfest activities, Civic Center CBD is consistently creating opportunities for the community to come together at fun, free, family-friendly events.
Beautification efforts include wayfinding signage, lighting, managing public art installations, landscaping, and other streetscape improvements throughout the District.

Red umbrellas adorn seating in UN Plaza and provide a fun pop of color with a nod to the adjacent Strand Theater.
Tivoli Lights
Civic Center CBD partnered with the Department of Recreation and Parks to adorn Civic Center Plaza with Tivoli lights, improving safety and beauty for Plaza pedestrians at night.
A 501c3 not-for-profit organization, the Civic Center Community Benefit District (CCCBD) helps steward San Francisco’s Civic Center neighborhood. The CCCBD team provides sidewalk cleaning, maintenance services, wayfinding, hospitality and social service outreach, which support and compliment City services.
Seven days a week, CCCBD works alongside several City agency partners to improve the quality of life in the community’s public open spaces for residents, employees and visitors.
Annual Clean Team Data:
170,000 pounds of litter removed from District sidewalks
4,000 hours of pressure washing services provided
23,000 instances of graffiti removed

14,500 instances of support for pedestrians (wayfinding and social service support) provided
1,300 annual hours of service as Garage Greeters at the Civic Center Garage provided

Clean Team
CCCBD’s cleaning maintenance services show pride to stewardship of the District. Timely addressing of issues like litter, graffiti, and general upkeep keeps acts of vandalism at bay creating an accessible, equitable, and comfortable environment for everyone. The Clean Team provides daily maintenance, and immediate response in the District, 7 days a week.
Community Ambassadors
Ambassadors welcome and inform the public in navigating the District 7 days a week 7 am to 7 pm. They are easily identified by their orange uniforms. Their presence deters criminal activity through their proactive and immediate reporting of unsafe conditions to CCCBD dispatch. They also help connect those in need of medical attention or social service support with proper City services.
Night Ambassadors work Tuesday through Saturday from 6 to 11 pm near arts and performance venues to enhance the pedestrian experience before and after evening events. They also provide wayfinding and hospitality support at the Civic Center Garage.

Dedicated Safety Ambassadors watch over Helen Diller Civic Center Playgrounds, ensuring the safety of children and the safety of the grounds and equipment at night.
