UN Plaza Recreational Programming:

Over the past two years, UN Plaza has undergone a remarkable transformation into a recreational destination. Beyond its reputation as a skateboarding mecca, the plaza is now a community hub for free, consistent programming like dance classes, chess, mahjong, and ping pong. These activities, managed by the Civic Center Community Benefit District, draw a diverse crowd daily. Plaza stewardship includes a Rec Shed staffed by ambassadors who manage the games equipment and maintain a clean and inviting atmosphere.

Fulton Plaza Programming:
What was once a street primarily used for parking is now a car-free plaza ideal for large events and activations, linking UN Plaza to Civic Center Plaza. Twice a week Fulton Plaza attracts thousands of residents for the vibrant Heart of the City Farmers’ Market and on other days it is home to a regular lunchtime concert series and free after-school hip hop dance classes. Flanked by the Asian Art Museum and the main San Francisco Public Library, with City Hall as a backdrop, Fulton Plaza has hosted family-friendly carnivals, vintage markets and music festivals.

Civic Center Plaza Tree Lighting:
The annual Civic Center Plaza Tree Lighting continues to expand in scale and spirit, solidifying its place as a beloved tradition for hundreds of local families. This holiday celebration transforms the plaza into a winter wonderland set against the backdrop of an illuminated City Hall. Event highlights include live entertainment and appearances by holiday icons like Santa and the Grinch; free holiday crafting activities at the Maker Village; toy and book giveaways for more than 500 children, and a family-friendly dining area and full bar offering seasonal beverages and bites. Partnering with CCCBD on this event offers your organization unique exposure to a diverse audience of residents, city leaders, and visitors. Together, we can continue to foster an inclusive and joyful Civic Center for all.

Dog Run:
The UN Plaza Dog Park has generated tremendous community enthusiasm, seeing thousands of visitors every month. Lend your support to our furry friends by sponsoring this enclosed play area for the many dogs and their owners that live in the neighborhood, and who enjoy free seasonal events and daily stewardship of this community gathering space.

Clean Team and Ambassadors:
CCCBD’s supplemental maintenance support for Civic Center shows pride and stewardship of the District. Furthermore, addressing issues like litter, graffiti and general upkeep in a timely manner keeps acts of vandalism at bay creating an accessible, equitable and comfortable environment for everyone.

Community Ambassadors assist the public in navigating the District with a welcoming and informed presence; they are easily identified by their orange uniforms. They assist in connecting those in need of medical attention or social service support with the proper agency. They also work near arts venues to enhance the pedestrian experience before and after evening performances and an Ambassador is also stationed at the street-level entrance to the Civic Center Garage.
